Abstract

As people age, vision problems in the elderly become a common health problem. Visual impairment can affect the quality of life of seniors, hinder mobility and increase the risk of accidents. Even though there are various causal factors, vision problems in the elderly are often overlooked, even though proper treatment can prevent more serious impacts. This research aims to examine the various problems faced by the elderly related to visual impairment, as well as identifying the causes, impacts and efforts that can be taken to overcome these disorders. This research uses library research methods by collecting and analyzing scientific articles published in Google Scholar between 2018 and 2024. The articles taken cover topics related to vision impairment in the elderly, risk factors, and their impact on quality. elderly life. Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that vision problems in the elderly are most often caused by cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. Factors such as age, diabetes, hypertension, and lack of regular check-ups are the main causes. The impacts include decreased ability to do activities, social isolation, and increased risk of falls and accidents. Appropriate treatment, such as cataract surgery and the use of vision aids, has been proven to improve the quality of life of the elderly. Vision impairment in the elderly is a significant health problem and can affect their quality of life. Therefore, it is important to increase awareness of the importance of regular eye examinations and improve access to eye care for the elderly.
