INTEGRATION OF MULTICULTURAL ISLAMIC EDUCATION VALUES INTO PESANTREN MANAGEMENT: A CASE STUDY AT SUBULUSSALAM ISLAMIC BOARDING SCHOOL, TANGERANG

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the integration of multicultural Islamic education values at Pondok Pesantren Modern Subulussalam Kresek Tangerang, including the integration process, supporting and inhibiting factors, as well as the impact of its implementation on students’ character development. This research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the pesantren leader, teachers, and students, observations of educational activities, and documentation studies. The data analysis technique was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the integration of multicultural Islamic education values is carried out through learning activities, dormitory life, and socio-religious activities that instill the values of tolerance (tasamuh), equality (musawah), justice (adl), togetherness, and democracy. Supporting factors include an inclusive pesantren culture, the exemplary role of kyai and teachers, the role of alumni, and the diverse backgrounds of students. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors include exclusive religious understanding, limited teacher competence, and the diverse backgrounds of students. The impact of this integration is reflected in the increased tolerance, improved ability to interact within diversity, and the formation of inclusive and moderate student character. Therefore, the integration of multicultural Islamic education values in pesantren plays a strategic role in shaping morally grounded individuals who are capable of living harmoniously in a pluralistic society
