SOLUTION ANALYSIS OF THE DIFFICULTIES OF IMPLEMENTING THE UMMI METHOD IN LEARNING THE QUR'AN (A STUDY OF CLASSES AT STP SMP KHOIRU UMMAH MEDAN)
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the difficulties in implementing the UMMI Method in Quranic learning and to propose an integrative solution based on the theory of Matan Al Jazari at STP SMP Khoiru Ummah Medan. The low level of students’ ability to read the Quran fluently and according to proper recitation rules is the main issue underlying this research. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in depth interviews, classroom observations, and documentation, and were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings indicate that the main obstacles in implementing the UMMI Method arise from student factors, including low motivation, weak basic knowledge of tajwid, and inappropriate class placement; teacher factors, including uneven practical competence and the absence of continuous supervision; and technical factors, including suboptimal use of learning media and limited instructional time. Solutions based on Matan Al Jazari emphasize tahsin, tajwid, discipline, sanad, and proper etiquette in reading the Quran, which can complement the weaknesses of the UMMI Method. The integration of these two approaches contributes to improving students’ Quranic reading quality, strengthening the role of teachers as murabbi, and increasing students’ motivation and discipline in learning the Quran. This study has implications for the development of integrative Quranic learning theory and provides practical input for Islamic educational institutions in supervision and curriculum development, while also opening opportunities for further research on adaptive models of Quranic learning method integration.
